ILIACHTIDA continues its course to EUROPE

 

The Association "iliachtida", as a member of the Network of Organizations "Eurochild", headquartered in Brussels and work across Europe to better the living conditions of children and young people, was representing by President Dora Kassimeris in the General Assembly of the European Network on 16 - 19 June 2009 in Brussels.

75 Associations from all over Europe took part in the General Assembly and expressed their ideas and policies on children's rights, how to combat the exploitation, violence, abuse and generally the improvement of living.

The President Dora Kassimeris came back from Brussels excited by the whole process and informed the Board of the Association on the strategy and practice to be followed by the Association from now on so as to promote the rights and welfare of children and family.

The main target of the Association is the establishment of a hostel accommodation - A warm hug for all children;

Organ donation
We go on to achive our goal

 

"Iliachtida" a supporting center for children and family proved once more its great sensitivity and the strong effort to inform people about the organ donation.

With the motto: Life is a gift that can be donated, for ten days, placed a kiosk at Nea Smyrni's Main Square full of leaflets about transplantation.

There all the Bord members tried very hard to come close to our citizens about this serious subject.

As Mrs Dora Kassimeris, the president of the association, told us the result was an unaccepted one and continued to say- when ten years ago we started this campaign people were full of suspicion and fear about this subject.

Nowadays the situation has changed completely, once again it was proved that only with a continuous and systematic effort on informing on the importance of Organ Donation we can realize the hopeful message that

"Life is a gift that can be donated"

CHARITY BAZAAR

 

This Sunday, 12 April 2009, saw the successful completion of our yearly charity bazaar, organized by "Iliachtida", Association for Children and Family.

With Easter arriving soon, President of "Iliachtida" Dora Kassimeris said that the funds raised will be appropriated to children residing in our city's foundations, to the elderly and to helpless citizens.

Traditional sweets, Easter gifts, candles and amplitude of other impressive artifacts, sold at very low prices, as well as gifts provided by friends of "Iliachtida", were exhibited on Sunday Morning at our city's Main Square. The

President, Dora Kassimeris, along with the entire Board and many friends of "Iliachtida" gladly served their fellow citizens who rushed to offer their support to "Iliachtida's" efforts.

Thanks to an overwhelming response to our call, the Association managed within hours to raise a considerable amount of money, an event that was received with great enthusiasm by the Association's Board.

The President and members of the Board of Trustees would like to express their gratitude to all of our fellow citizens who support "Iliachtida" Association. They also wish to express their sincere thanks to Christos Georgakopoulos, Director of Xenopoulos School, for the unreserved moral and financial support he constantly offers to the Association.

20th CENTURY: THE CENTURY OF WOMEN

 

On Sunday morning 15th March 2009 in the main Hall of the building "ESTIA" in N. Smyrni a great event was organised by "ILIACHTIDA" Association for Children and Family, in collaboration with the General Secretariat for Gender Equality, on the occasion the World Day of Woman.

In a packed room from our fellow-citizens, representatives of all political parties and Institutions of various organizations. The President of the Association Mrs Dora Kassimeris, in her short greeting, reported that: "This day symbolizes the systematic struggle of the women to protect their rights but also the continuing expectations for equal occasions and prospects in the economic and social growth. The woman's movement is considered by the analysts of history as the most achieved subversive and progressive movement of 20th century. So the event of our Association is dedicated to the 10 women fables of this century with a short report.".

The President welcoming with joy and respect Mrs Marieta Giannakou, former Minister of Education, was reported in her multifarious and completed personality, was congratulated and thanked her that she accepted to carry the message of the day. The main speaker Mrs Giannakou, with her thorough and impressive report in the woman of 20th century, succeeded in enthousiasming the audience.

9 YEARS "ILIACHTIDA"

 

On Saturday evening 7th February 2009, in the Hall of music "APANEMO", the Association "ILIACHTIDA" for children and family, celebrated the 9 years of offer and love to the fellowman.

In a packed room from friends and volunteers of the Association the Council extinguished the 9 small candles of birthday of "ILIACHTIDA"".

The chairman Mrs Dora Kassimeris, particularly moved stressed that this evening is a special one because it is dedicated only to persons that from the foundation of the Association supported the strong try of "ILIACHTIDA".

The delicious food, wine, champagne and dance kept up to the first morning hours.
Many of close friend and supporters of "ILACHTIDA" enjoyed this evening.

"Iliachtida" very close to the elders

 

On Sunday 11th January 2009, "ILIACHTIDA" the Association for Children and
Family celebrated the cutting of New Year's pie in an Old Women's home.

With this event "ILIACHTIDA" proved, yet again, her great sensitivity to the old people that such days feel terribly alone.

A group of volunteers with guitars entertained the old ladies, singing old nostalgic songs that moved the old women and the members of the Association and offered them an amazing evening full of recollections and sweet moments from the past.

It was a wonderful touching evening.

Feast of Love

 

On 22 December 2008 the Association "ILIACHTIDA" for Children and Family, opened and this year affectionately her embrace and was present in the feast of LOVE of children in the "St. Barbara" Institution (Iosifogleio).

A lot of our fellow-citizens enjoyed a Christmas touching evening with songs, dance, sweets, gifts but mainly a lot of love and warmth.

The president of the Association Mrs Dora Kassimeris and the person in charge of Public Relations Mrs Mary Koutsaftaki, full of gifts and a lot of love, participated in the joy of children and in general in the whole Christmas climate.

Finishing this beautiful evening, after they thanked the Administrative Council and the personnel of the Institution, promised that they will continue supporting the children in any way and the Association "ILIACHTIDA" will always be for them an open embrace.

Iliachtida opens its wings to Europe

 

As of November 5, 2008, "Iliactida" Association for Children and Family is a member of an International Network of NGOs, Eurochild, which is based in Brussels and operates throughout Europe, aiming at improving the living standards of children and young people.

Its work is supported by the International Convention for Children's Rights.

Its objective is to include children and youth organizations from all over Europe to the European Union's strategy on Social Inclusion and to assist in the exchange of information on best practice. Eurochild's main objective is the fight against poverty and social exclusion.

Eurochild's mission is to advance the rights and well-being of children and young people throughout Europe.

The annual conference of the International Network Eurochild was held this year in Budapest from 5-9 November 2008, and the President of "Iliachtida" Association Dora Kassimeris, already a member, was invited to participate.

The Association's great success opens up new possibilities in the European Union and at the same time encourages further its efforts to realize its vision.

 

Organ Donation: A Hopeful Message

 

"Iliachtida" Association - Centre for the Support of Children and Family, in collaboration with the National Organisation for Transplantations, on November 1st, 2008, the Pan-Hellenic Day for Organ Donation, proved its sensitivity to its fellow citizens, its high objectives and in general its great efforts to rise to the top of its fellow citizens appreciation.

By placing a kiosk at Nea Smyrni's Main Square it managed once again to sensitise -on this occasion- a greater number of volunteers for Organ Donation.

Impressive was the support of the Association's volunteers who remained for a long time next to the Board members proving the public with leaflets and information on the sensitive and controversial subject of the campaign.

Once again it was proved that only with continuous and systematic effort of informing on the importance of Organ Donation we can realise the hopeful message that:

ILIACHTIDA: A Warm, Personal Call

 

"Iliachtida" Association for Children and Family, as part of its activities has decided to call upon all of its fellowmen asking for their voluntary cooperation and participation in the Association's councils, expressing their opinions and ideas on collective actions.

This cooperation concerns persons of all social groups that will act on a voluntary basis, without party or dogmatic character. This social networking will attempt to claim National and International programs.

The network is to be activated in sectors such as Education, the Environment, Culture, quality of life, Young People, Family, the Welfare State, and People originating from Special Demographic groups.

The objective of this network is to organise study and inquiring teams, both within our society as well as in Europe. Also conferences, training seminars, festivals, meetings, scientific conferences, lectures, photography exhibitions, book publications, the exchange and transfer of information, experiences and know-how, the confrontation of common problems, in search of solutions that will strengthen the materilisation of the Association's goals.

In this effort we call upon all of our fellowmen in joint action for the achievement of "Iliachtida's" objectives, for we all know that if we join our efforts we can achieve a very strong, pioneering and ideal result.

A Warm Hug for all Children

 

The President and the Board of "Iliachtida" Association, under the motto "a warm hug for all children", invite all psychologists, paedo-psychologists, social workers and all those with relevant experience, to offer their support voluntarily to Iliachtida's Centre for the Support of Children and Family which has been operating since the beginning of 2008 at the Society Headquarters at 33 Korai Street, Nea Smyrni, and to join in our effort so that we can offer our help to all children that need it.

A JOURNEY OF NOSTALGIA ON THE TRAIN OF "ILIACHTIDA"

 

On Monday, 23 June 2008, on the Eve of St John's Rigana, "Iliachtida" Association - Centre for the Support of Children-Families - organized its yearly event aiming at the revival of the Klidona's custom.

Our fellow citizens, in recognition of the social and cultural work the Association offers to the town of Nea Smyrni, made their presence felt in large numbers.

In the crowded Main Square of our town, students from Nea Smyrni's 1st Gymnasium managed to drive the train of memories and transfer our fellow citizens back to that beautiful age, to Smyrni's neighborhood. Their performances touched the spectators, who thought that it was necessary to revive our homeland's customs as they highlight our cultural heritage and its uniqueness, connecting the present with the past.

Nikos Stefos, a journalist from Nea Smyrni, and head of the "Citizens Alliance for Nea Smyrni" made a significant contribution to the event, as he undertook the task of narrating in a warmly fashion the customs of Klidona's and St John's Rigana. Through his speech, he managed to move all those present and especially the young who ignore our traditions.

Association President Dora Kassimeris, particularly moved by the event, awarded prizes to two respected fellow citizens who have supported the "Iliachtida" Association since its foundation: Vassilis Georgakopoulos, son and worthy successor of Christos Georgakopoulos, principal and owner of the Xenopoulos Academies, and Dimitris Thanasas, principal of Nea Smyrni's 1st Gymnasium.

Nea Smyrni's "Cretan Union" and "St. Paraskevi's Youth Centre" Dance Groups, along with the blazes from May's wreaths, were the crowning moment of the celebration, with spectators staying over until very late in the evening, dancing and in high spirits.

This coming Monday 23 June at 20:30, on the Eve of Saint John, "ILIACHTIDA" will welcome you aboard the train of nostalgia on a route towards our tradition, leaving Nea Smyrni's Main Square and arriving to Smyrni which always resides within our hearts.

We invite you to open Klidonas (a traditional habit) and light fires using May's wreaths, in what will be a breathtaking evening that will remind us of old times at our unforgettable motherland, Smyrni.

Traditional performances, songs and dances from Smyrni, will allow us to learn about our past though our traditions and to unite ourselves with the present, bringing back memories that were lost in the darkness of time.

A Warm Hug for All Children

 

"Iliachtida" Association once again proves its great concern for all children, without prejudism or racism. On 26 March 2008, "Iliachtida" was formally invited to join the celebrations of the children from Sevastopol, Crimea Peninsula, at "Enastron" Theatre, were we enjoyed a presentation by the cultural group "Peninsula Stars".

"Peninsula Stars" is made up of students from Ukrainian and Crimean schools, who with great love and zeal are trying to learn our language and, especially, our culture.

Their celebration was a high quality event that demonstrated their love and great respect to the ideals and civilization of our country.

At the end of the event, the President, Mrs. Dora Kassimeris, expressed her gratitude and admiration for their achievements, and following a group photo, promised to continue supporting their efforts. It is indeed our obligation to support such efforts that honour and promote Greek ideals to the ends of the world.

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY

 

This Sunday, 16 March 2008, saw the successful completion of an event at Sporting Cinema organized by "Iliachtida", Association for Children and Family, in cooperation with the General Secretariat for Gender Equality, on the occasion of International Women's Day.

Under the motto "Woman - Strength … Struggle … Justification …", the Association has as its goal to support women that have been the victims of oppression, violence, trafficking, and women that face the problems of today's harsh realities in a society that strikes merciless at its weakest members.

Representatives from women's societies, through their vivid testimonies, contributed substantially to the Association's efforts to pass a hopeful message to the general public with regards to the recognition of women's struggle within the family, workplace and society.

The presentation given by Manos Stefanidis, an art critic, was received with great enthusiasm by our fellow citizens, as he managed in an outstanding way and through the use of remarkable works of art, to construe woman's role throughout the ages.

Leonteios High School Children's Choir galvanized onlookers and students from Nea Smyrni's 1st Gymnasium at the beginning of the event, as their performance "Refugees from Asia Minor … We Are Also Humans" greatly moved those present by bringing back memories of the catastrophe.

Present at the event were the Head of Security, Mr. Balas; a representative from the General Secretariat for Gender Equality, Mrs. Katsaridou; Nea Smyrni's City Councilors, Mrs. Deligianni, Ms Kardara, Mr. Bisalas, Mrs. Athanasiou and Mr. Pagkalis; the Director of Nea Smyrni's 1st Gymnasium, Mr. Thanasas; the President of the Society for Abused Women "Frontida", Mrs. Dorkofiki; and the President of the Society of Parents and Guardians, Mr. Pappas.

"Iliachtida" an Association for children and family holds an event in cooperation with The General Secretariat of Equality, on the occasion of the International Woman's Day.
Both, in a great effort will try to support every woman who is oppressed, abused, the woman of Trafficking and in general everyone who face the everyday cruel reality of the society.
The event will take place on Sunday 16th of March 2008 at 11 a.m. at SPORTINK cinema in N. Smyrni (18, K. Paleologou str.).
Representatives of Greek and Foreign women organizations will make a speech about their personal experiences, so they will contribute to our effort to send hopeful messages to people in order their struggle to be recognized by our society.

CENTRE FOR THE SUPPORT OF CHILDREN AND FAMILIES

"Iliachtida", an Association for children and family, is a non-Governmental Organisation specializing in supporting and protecting the rights of young people, as well as in supporting families. It was founded in the beginning of 2000 in Nea Smyrni, Athens.

Under the motto "a warm hug for all children", "Iliachtida" is now ready to open its arms to lonely children, to children in need of affection and love, to mothers who are
in need of support, are abused and need to be consulted by specialists on family problems.

Today witnesses a new beginning, as "Iliachtida's" vision becomes a reality. Today sees the opening of the Centre for the Support of Children and Families. Tomorrow, with God's help, the reception centre.

We envisage a society without disorder that respects young people and provides equal opportunities to all. Our mission is to take immediate action to prevent and fight social exclusion, and provide information, with the emphasis placed on children and teenagers aged 6 to 18.

Based on this belief, "Iliachtida" develops new methods and techniques in supporting young people, we are ready to listen and provide help to every problem. Cultural and social activities, and the provision of consultation and support, are some of our immediate goals.

Enhancing the knowledge and abilities of young people, in combination with creative expression and communication, will help them in managing more effectively any difficulties that they may encounter. "Iliachtida" believes that young people can overcome social exclusion, provided that we stand by their side.

It is because of these beliefs we hold so dearly, that we are today pleased to inform you that as on 9 January 2008 "Iliachtida's" Centre for the Support of Children and Families opens up.

Scientific personnel offering its services voluntarily are ready to offer you support, comfort and assistance to any problem. All of our services will be offered free of charge, with a lot of love and understanding.

The Centre for the Support of Children and Families will be housed at 33 Korai Street, Nea Smyrni and will operate during weekdays at present.

You are kindly requested to bring any books that you are able to offer to the children of the regions recently devastated by wildfires, to the offices of "Iliachtida", Organization for Children and Family, 33 Korai Street, Nea Smyrni, between 10 - 12 am and 5 - 9 pm.

We are collecting illustrated, all kinds of books, nursery tales, novels (in Greek and in English), about the environment, first aid, combating natural disasters, etc.

PRESS RELEASE

With great success on Sunday 14 October 2007 the Municipality of Nea Smyrni, "Iliachtida", the organization for children and family, and the 4th Boy Scouts Regiment, organized a Creativity Competition for the children and teenagers of our town at Nea Smyrni's Main Square, in an effort to promote awareness to children on issues such as the environment and recycling, and the kind of life they would like to live in a more human town.

The event's message was: "I am concerned ... because the future is arriving"

The event's organizers let children dream, demonstrate, awaken and mobilize us by creating designs made of recyclable material, and painting pictures of the town they would like to live in. Definitely a town more friendly, a town with less cement and more flowers that one will like to live in

Despite bad weather conditions, participation in the event was overwhelming!

The children's creations, each one unique and special, made the committee's task, which was comprised of professors in the relevant fields and scholars, in awarding the prizes, very difficult.

The contributions made by the Hellenic Company for Development and Recycling, and by the Environmental Association of the Municipalities of Athens and Piraeus to the event, were both substantial and profound, through their offerings of various gifts and toys that brightened the event.

The sensitivity you demonstrated towards the needs of our schools and students, and your material contribution, also constitute a moral support towards both the student and academic communities which are confronted with a difficult academic year. CREATIVITY COMPETITION: THE ENVIRONMENT - RECYCLING

With the motto "Tomorrow is arriving - what are we going to do?", the Municipality of Nea Smyrni, "Iliachtida", and the 4th Boy Scouts Regiment, will award the best message on the issue of "The Environment - Recycling".

As part of our organized events, and in an attempt to once again mobilize the children of Nea Smyrni on the issue of the environment - recycling, and the kind of life they would like to live in a more human town, we invite them this coming Sunday, 14 October 2007 at 9:30am, to the Main Square of Nea Smyrni. Children are invited to let their imagination flourish and build constructions using recyclable material (such as matchboxes, cigarette packets, aluminium cans, paper, etc), and to paint pictures, thus creating the "town of tomorrow".

The competition is open to all children and teenagers from Nea Smyrni's schools.
1st Subject: "The town that I will build"
(for primary education children)
2nd Subject : "This is what I dream about"
(for elementary education children)
3rd Subject: "Tomorrow is arriving in no time"
(for secondary education children)

Following the competition, a committee comprised of professors in the relevant fields and scholars will choose the best three individual or team projects, which will be awarded at a special ceremony.

Gifts will be offered to all participants. There will also be an amusement park for the entertainment of all the children involved in the competition.

We invite all of our town's children to participate in this event, so that we can all together promote to our fellow citizens the message:

"Tomorrow is arriving in no time - what are we going to do?"

N. Smyrni's children with the cooperation of the Municipality of Nea Smyrni, "Iliachtida" Association (association for children and family) and the 4th Boy Scouts Regiment, will create with recyclable materials and painting the town we would like to live in, protecting the environment.

HUMANITARIAN ASSISTANCE FROM "ILIACHTIDA" AND BOY-SCOUTS

The distribution of humanitarian assistance to victims in the wildfire disaster zones of the Peloponnesus was successfully competed.

"Iliachtida" and Nea Smyrni's local boy-scouts regiment successfully completed the distribution of humanitarian assistance to victims in the wildfire disaster zones of the Peloponnesus, following an effort that first started in late August to collect necessary material aid.

The necessities of the victims in the disaster areas were determined following communication with the local authorities.

The first humanitarian assistance mission to the Municipality of Zaharo, Prefecture of Ileia, took place on 2 September 2007.

The second mission to the city of Pyrgos, Ileia, took place on 10 September 2007. Clothing, food and a notable number of stationery materials (school bags, writing material, etc) were sent to the city of Pyrgos, following communication with the Department for Secondary Education of the Municipality of Ileia.

Once again, we would like to express our gratitude towards our fellow citizens for their unreserved support to our efforts.

HUMANITARIAN ASSISTANCE CAMPAIGN

"Iliachtida" and Nea Smyrni's boy-scouts are once again leading the way in supporting the victims of the wildfire disaster areas. On the morning of Sunday 2 September 2007, a truck loaded with food and sanitary ware was sent to the Municipality of Zaharo.

Now we are preparing a second humanitarian assistance mission to the Prefecture of Ileia.

We would like to sincerely thank our fellow citizens who once again stood by our side in our efforts.

Please help us to collect stationery material (school bags, pencil-cases, notepads, pencils, etc) so that the disaster-struck children of our fellow citizens may receive, if we all try, some joy on their first day of the new academic year.

We would like to express our sincere thanks to New Democracy's parliamentary candidate Miltiadi Varvitsioti for his unreserved support in offering us trucks for the transfer of goods to Peloponnesus.

HUMANITARIAN ASSISTANCE CAMPAIGN

"Iliachtida" and Nea Smyrni's Boy-Scouts sympathizing with, and considering their goals and duties towards their fellow citizens, are organizing this Friday, 7 September 2007 (5pm to 8 pm) and Saturday, 8 September 2007 (9am to 3pm) a campaign for the collection of food and sanitary ware in order to assist the victims living in the wildfire disaster areas.

Representatives from "Iliachtida" and Nea Smyrni's boy-scouts will be stationed outside our cities main supermarkets (Veropoulos, Vassilopoulos and Sklavenitis) to collect our fellow citizens' offerings.

At the same time, and on a daily basis, food and sanitary ware are concentrated at "Iliachtida"'s offices from 10am to 1pm, and from 6pm to 9pm, as well as at the headquarters of Nea Smyrni's Local Boy-Scouts regiment from 5pm to 8pm.

Let us all together demonstrate our humanity by alleviating their pain.
